French Bistro Style at BON Restaurant

BON is a French themed restaurant in Gothenburg, close to Kungsportsavenyn at the end with the art museum and concert hall.

The Food

The menu includes iconic french dishes such as steak tartare, escargot, frog legs, duck confit, Swedish restaurant staples such as pizza and burger. Our table had the Fish Gratin, duck confit, mussels, followed by creme caramel and chocolate tart.

The fish gratin was enjoyed by my Swedish friends and delivered what many of us seek in a gratin – well cooked fish, nice mashed potatoes and a tasty creamy sauce.

The duck confit was my choice for the evening, which was a nicely cooked side of duck (not as tender as some versions of this dish, but still nicely cooked) and the red wine sauce dark and rich.

The mussels were nicely cooked with a tasty seafood and garlic sauce. It isn’t a moules frit dish – although there are two sizes of the dish available so you can have it as an entre or as a main dish.

For the dessert I had the chocolate tart – a rich and dense tarte with a full flavour, with a berry sauce strong enough to accompany the tart.

Ambience

The service at the restaurant is great, and the atmosphere low-key and relaxed. It isn’t one of those stuffy French restaurants you might experience, instead it has more of a bistro feel.
